North Myrtle Beach consists of four communities: Windy Hill, Crescent
Beach, Ocean Drive and Cherry Grove. Each section has it's own unique
history, in fact legend has it that Windy Hill was reportedly named after a
comment that George Washington made about the area. While standing
out on the dunes looking out over the ocean, a gust of wind blew his hat off,
to which Washington responded, "Oh what a windy hill!" While Crescent
Beach gets it's name after the unique crescent shape of its coastline.
These communities that make up North Myrtle Beach have plenty to
offer in the way of enjoyment and entertainment. Cherry Grove is truly
the perfect community for the laid back lifestyle. And who could forget
that Ocean Drive is the birthplace of the Shag, one of the most popular
swing dances of the 40s.
