NUDITY
It is unlawful for any person to appear in the nude on any public beach or public
access.
LITERATURE & SOLICITATION
It is unlawful to distribute any paper, books, pamphlets, samples, advertisements,
handbills, and circulars on any public beach or public access. It is also unlawful to
distribute product samples, admission passes, or entry tickets; to conduct any sales
or rental business; to sell or offer to sell or rent any article, publication, good,
subscription or other thing of value on the beach or public access.
FLOTATION DEVICES
All flotation devices not attached securely to one's person must be fabric-covered
and have a 360-degree rope (3/8" minimum diameter) with 10 percent slack.
GLASS CONTAINERS
It is unlawful to take any glass bottle, drinking glass, or other glass containers onto
the beach.
ANIMALS

Animals on the beach must be on a hand-held leash
not to exceed six feet in length. Animals are
prohibited on the beach between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.,
May 15th through September 15th. Owners must
always pick up their pet's waste deposited on the
beach, dune crossover, park or other public property.
MOTORBOATS, SAILBOATS,
AND PERSONAL WATERCRAFT
Sailboats, motorboats, and personal watercraft should not
endanger any persons in the water and should remain at least 100
yards from the shoreline and 50 yards of any swimmer.
SWIMMING DISTANCE, DEPTH, AND
OBEDIENCE TO LIFEGUARDS
No person should be in the ocean waters more than 50 yards from where the
ocean adjoins the strand, or be in the waters at a depth greater than shoulder
height. Anyone who fails to obey the directions of any lifeguard will be guilty of
a misdemeanor. Lifeguards may decrease the distance in adverse weather conditions.
PERSONS IN OCEAN TO MAINTAIN DISTANCE
FROM PIERS
No person should be within 50 yards of a pier while in the ocean.
CRITICAL HABITAT AREAS
Pedestrian, vehicle, and other traffic in critical habitat areas designated along the
ocean shoreline by the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Resources
Department (SCWMRD) is subject to certain restrictions.
